Time for the River Rat Dog up date….
Time to turn the corner from winter fishing to Spring.

This has been happening  as of late! Steelhead in shallow gravel and cleaned redds.

Its a mix of winter and Spring Steelhead fishing tactics that have bringing Steelhead to the net.
Stone flys are out and Stone fly patterns along with small eggs patterns and Egg sucking leaches.
Have brought Steelhead to our nets, and don't discount the good old Woolly bugger. We are Drift
fishing and using Indicators.

Drop back fishing with Hot n Tots and Spawn sacks drifted or under indicators (bobbers) are
working, as well as jigs and wax worms.

Trout fishing this winter has been very good on the Manistee river and Muskegon river. The Grand
river has once again held very good numbers of Steelhead this winter. While The once fantastic
winter fishing on the St. Joseph river struggles as related to past years.

What Has been
Good snow fall and little thaw this winter, has me looking for an excellent Spring run off. This Spring
run off triggers the Spring Steelhead sending the up the river on a carpet of warming spring runoff.

The Hatches
had been Massive last Spring And Dry fly fishing was very good. Though some odd Spring
weather patterns put the big bug hatches off their intend timing. We did have some all day hatches to fish

Salmon fishing late Summer and into November brought  a Smile to me and many other. We have been
blessed with these big game fish here in Michigan. Along with are Spring Steelhead runs.

Summer Small Mouth trips! I normally get as many as Trout trips, but the Trout trips were 2 to 1 small mouth
last Sumner. With just a hand full of Carp fishing trips unreal reel stripping action.
